Chinmaya Mission Pittsburgh

“Know that Yuva Kendra is the bow, and a pure mind is the sharpened arrow. Your goal should be (knowledge of) the Self and welfare of the world. Like the arrow (that hits its target), may you become one with the goal.” (Swami Tejomayananda)

We are the Pittsburgh chapter of Chinmaya Yuva Kendra West, the North American youth branch of Chinmaya Mission, an organization dedicated to sharing the wisdom of Vedanta with the world. We strive to better ourselves and the lives of others through critical study (satsang), service (seva), and the application of Vedantic principles.

Our chapter consists of undergraduates, graduate students, and working professionals from the Pittsburgh area. We meet every Sunday afternoon in the Cathedral of Learning, located on the University of Pittsburgh’s lower campus. If you are interested in joining us as we pursue our study of Vedanta, please email us at chykpittsburgh@gmail.com, or visit our Contact page to reach our members. You can also find us on Facebook.

CHYK Pittsburgh

Chinmaya Mission Pittsburgh (CMP) was started in 1978 with the inspiration and blessings of Pujya Swami Chinmayananda after his very first Jnana Yajna in Pittsburgh. CMP has conducted weekly children's classes and CMP Jnana Yajnas at various local temples. Festival celebrations unite all the families from all the venues. The center was formally opened on August 3, 2008 by Pujya Swami Tejomayananda. Under his guidance and advice, Hanumanji has been installed at our center with the name of Chinmaya Sanjeevani.
